Leh History / History of Leh Ladakh

Till 17th century, Ladakh was ruled by King Sengge Namgyal and was prone to frequent attacks by the Kashmiri Muslim. When Leh was accorded the status of regional capital, it soon flourished into a prosperous town with a market on the famous Silk Route. It is said that in 1920s and 1930s, the vibrant bazaar, still present used to receive camel -trains and a dozen pony every day.

Weather and Climate of Leh Ladakh

Since Leh falls in the rain shadow area of the Great Himalayas, it experiences an arid climate characterized by scanty rainfall and radiation of heat from the soil. Summers begin in March and ends in May characterized by dryness and burning temperature. Mercury revolves around 40 degree celsius. Winters arrive in November and lasts till February characterized by biting and harsh cold. The mercury goes below 0 degree celsius and the entire region is covered by a thick blanket of snow.
